J. B. LaBeau purchased it for $500 in 1865 to house his shop, and pioneer surgeon Dr. I. C. Smith established his office here in 1870. In the 1890s, the building was known as the Anaconda Hotel Annex (the Anaconda is now the Fairweather Inn). Interconnecting rooms made a nighttime visit to the two-story privy out back, once accessed by a bridge, hardly private. In 1948, the Boveys recreated a toy store in the building and added a porch to protect its classic Greek Revival façade.","sponsor":null,"accessinfo":"Private","lede":"","website":"","related_resources":["<a href=\"https://npgallery.nps.gov/NRHP/GetAsset/22389964-91bd-4c66-917f-0279004a042e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read about Virginia City National Historic Landmark District</a>","<a href=\"https://npgallery.nps.gov/NRHP/GetAsset/e0b9251f-b92e-4e8e-ae20-c0bc3cec7394/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">See photos of Virginia City National Historic Landmark District</a>"],"factoids":[],"files":{"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/fullsize/a92d155aebbbde58b649fb7e7eb1c8db.jpg":{"id":2325,"mime-type":"image/jpeg","title":"J.
