The congregation hired local architects Otto F. Wasmansdorff and George Eastman. They created a design with many Gothic Revival details, to be built of native sandstone by local Croatian stone masons under the direction of builder T. J. Tubb. Look for the Gothic Revival influence in the square crenellated bell tower, engaged buttresses with dressed stone weathering caps, the arched windows, and the dressed stone cornice. Imagine the sandstone slabs weighing 140-180 pounds per cubic foot, quarried south of Lewistown, being hauled to the site and then fashioned into precise blocks with hand chisels, hammers, and mallets.","sponsor":null,"accessinfo":"Private","lede":"","website":"","related_resources":["Read about the First Presbyterian Church","See photos of the First Presbyterian Church"],"factoids":[],"files":{"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/fullsize/3cdda1efd5c1965dfeb71927e8bda3dd.jpg":{"id":977,"mime-type":"image/jpeg","title":"First Presbyterian Church","description":"First Presbyterian Church, facing north on the corner of West Watson Street and 5th Avenue South, view of front and side entries. | MontanaPictures.net | Sept. 2004 | MontanaPictures.net","thumbnail":"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/square_thumbnails/3cdda1efd5c1965dfeb71927e8bda3dd.jpg"},"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/fullsize/28e12b1ba0f7b8af6c1cc4ee2c20f881.jpg":{"id":1183,"mime-type":"image/jpeg","title":"Presbyterian Church, Lewistown, Montana","description":"First Presbyterian Church, front/side view of the church, facing northeast on West Watson Street. | Montana History Portal | Unknown | Unidentified photographer","thumbnail":"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/square_thumbnails/28e12b1ba0f7b8af6c1cc4ee2c20f881.jpg"},"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/fullsize/80f82cdd47d8a5925b5ee51fb057df46.jpg":{"id":1184,"mime-type":"image/jpeg","title":"Presbyterian Church, Lewistown, Montana","description":"The second Presbyterian Church (built 1912) was located on the corner of Watson and Fifth Avenue South.
