Early residents included Irish immigrant Samuel McGuiggan (a teamster turned sewing machine salesman), his parents, and five siblings. The McGuiggans left in 1913 and developers replaced the farmhouse with this Craftsman style bungalow. The shingled dormer with exposed rafter tails and triangle brackets exemplifies this style. During his residence from 1919 to 1923, city attorney Robert L. Clinton unsuccessfully sought the Republican gubernatorial nomination. Bill H. Stork, wife Clara, and daughter Jewel Ann moved here in 1923. In a Montana Power Co. advertisement, Bill bragged about the home’s thirty-five electric lamps, four-burner electric range, electric water heater, toaster, vacuum cleaner, curling iron, percolator, and waffle iron. “If we go out of an evening and leave all the lights burning, I never worry,” he declared. “The more current we use the cheaper the rate.” Bill ran Stork Printing Co., which printed material for thirty-six counties. He dissolved his business in 1945 and died in 1950. Clara remained in residence until the late 1950s.","sponsor":null,"accessinfo":"private","lede":"","website":"","related_resources":["<a href=\"https://npgallery.nps.gov/GetAsset/b2694698-4c33-4e3d-b1f9-d8b8740bf6dc/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read more about the Butte Historic District.</a>"],"factoids":[],"files":{"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/fullsize/eb1d2d9eb05b2dd6f4b6b4b8590edce1.jpg":{"id":6284,"mime-type":"image/png","title":"Stork Residence","description":"Front view of façade | Google Street View | June 2012","thumbnail":"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/square_thumbnails/eb1d2d9eb05b2dd6f4b6b4b8590edce1.jpg"},"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/fullsize/19118984365f20decba8d25102d44080.jpg":{"id":6285,"mime-type":"image/jpeg","title":"Butte_Evening_News_1910_12_19_27.jpg","description":"","thumbnail":"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/square_thumbnails/19118984365f20decba8d25102d44080.jpg"}}}
