Romanesque Revival arches, Renaissance Revival wall layering, and an Italianate cornice speak to the exuberant eclecticism of the period. Built by local contractor George Wells for Charles McDonald and John Charters, the building originally housed a land office and the Lewistown Bakery whose specialty was “Mother’s Bread.” The Knights of Pythias met in the second-floor lodge hall. Now an integral part of a three-building unit, the narrow cut stone first-floor entry hall and upper-floor façade retain their 1905 appearances.","sponsor":null,"accessinfo":"Private","lede":"","website":"","related_resources":["<a href=\"https://npgallery.nps.gov/NRHP/GetAsset/b09cf6c6-c3ae-461a-96cb-fe666d2474b3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read about the Lewistown Central Business Historic District</a>","<a href=\"https://npgallery.nps.gov/NRHP/GetAsset/7b2f6b95-a90a-465a-b4ad-22427de8c337/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">See photos of the Lewistown Central Business Historic District</a>"],"factoids":[],"files":{"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/fullsize/7c0e8d9e45133d2033a902ae4c8527cd.jpg":{"id":2034,"mime-type":"image/jpeg","title":"506 West Main St., Lewistown","description":"View looking northeast at McDonald Charters block.  | Aug 2019 | Christine Brown, Montana Historical Society","thumbnail":"https://mail.historicmt.org/files/square_thumbnails/7c0e8d9e45133d2033a902ae4c8527cd.jpg"}}}
